Stepping out onto the West Coast of Barbados, my senses are instantly overwhelmed. The scent of freshly cut grass, the palm trees swaying in the mid-afternoon breeze, and the lively aqua skies have my immediate attention. Images on Twitter and Instagram do not do this place justice. Just when I think it can’t get any more surreal than this, the driver pulls up to a resort so vast that it looks like it could only belong to the most elite personage. It's Casablanca: the white house, but without the political stress.
Inside, I’m greeted with the aura of paradise—a pearly interior, exotic artwork taking over the walls, and the sleekest finishing. The 7,800-square foot property can host more people than I know by name. Two levels feature seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a modern kitchen, an essential exercise room, a stunning living room, and a media room.
Before I get the chance to explore outside, the villa Chef asks me what I'd like for dinner. I'm a steak kind of guy—Filet Mignon it is. Before dinner, we play paddle tennis on our personal court and cool off in the illuminated infinity pool. The crisp reflection of the Barbados sunset glistens cleanly off the water. After an outstanding meal in the Estate’s al fresco gazebo, we head out to see what paradise has to offer, and boy, we are in for a treat. We start off with the Red Door Bar and make our way to Harbour Lights where we dance the night away.
Day 2 at the Sandy Lane Estate is packed with activities. We wake up to the extravagant aroma of pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and some of the best fresh fruit I’ve tasted in my life. We have a small ping-pong tournament in the cottage before heading out to the world-renowned Sandy Lane golf course. My golf handicap is high, but today I am especially unskilled because the unbelievably astonishing beauty of this place distracts me. The range features a variety of jutting cliffs that overlook the holes. We play on the Green Monkey course (by Tom Fazio) and I feel a special sense of belonging knowing the courses are exclusive to those residing at the Sandy Lane Estate.
The remaining days of our Barbados getaway include jet blading, snorkeling, fishing, beach horseback riding, and relaxation in the restorative sunshine. Be sure to check out my video recap of our amazing stay at the Sandy Lane Casablanca Estate for a vision of what I couldn’t possibly put into words.
